Efficiency through collaboration

By Jessica Best, Programme Manager

Since our launch in September, we have hosted two successful breakfast clubs, one on Human Trafficking and the other on Violence Against Women. We know that attending morning events can sometimes be tricky, so for those who did not have a chance to join us or if you just want to catch up, the following blog offers a few pointers on how to get involved.

Taking on new projects and using your time to help others is not always straight-forward. Women for Change realises this and tries to facilitate this process by offering our members the necessary knowledge to effectively engage with the social impact sector.

As we move into the new year, we suggest taking a leap of faith and starting something new. Women all over the world are suffering from gender disparities and by using your strength as a Women for Change member, you will actively be contributing to ending theses inequalities.

Here’s a few things to know before you start your journey…

  • Realise your potential.

Charities are constantly struggling for funds and recognition. What you might not realise is that you have the ability to offer them something just as valuable: support. Sharing your expertise can lead to much more effective and sustainable impact. Whether you are a solicitor, barrister, consultant, graphic designer, HR Manager, etc. never underestimate your value! By donating ‘brain hours’ you are not only preserving a charity’s limited resources, but you are also offering a different perspective.

  • Talk to a charity you are passionate about. Just do it.

In the beginning, it might seem like a big step. Do you really want to start something new? Sometimes it’s worth having that conversation - you never know what journey it might take you on. You don’t need to be an expert in women’s rights to work with a domestic violence organisation. If you are passionate about a specific issue, get involved now!

  • Control how to give away your time.

We all have different schedules and responsibilities. Women for Change does not aim to add additional pressures to your life - we want to make this process as simple as possible. We are here to help you realise the most effective ways for you to get involved with social issues you care about. Do you have 10 minutes a week, do you have 10 hours? There are a number of ways to make a difference and we can help you find one that works for you.

Women for Change is all about tapping into our individual resources, so join us today to become a member or email me at jessica@shivafoundation.org.uk if you would like to know more!
